Introducing Style Transfer: Using Inspiration Photos to Design Spaces

Picture this: it’s a typical Saturday morning, and you're scrolling through your feed. You stumble upon the most jaw-dropping room design - let's say, Venus Williams’ sun-drenched, Floridian living room (because, of course, we all casually have Venus’s living room in our feeds). You think to yourself, "My humble abode could never…" But hold that thought right there, because it totally can!

You think to yourself, "My humble abode could never…" But hold that thought right there, because it totally can!

Sometimes, it's hard to imagine how designs we love will actually work in our own spaces without seeing them firsthand. That's why we created Palazzo's Style Transfer feature.

How to bring your inspo photos to life with Style Transfer

With Style Transfer, you can take any photo that speaks to you and infuse the design elements, style, and colors into your space.

To get started, all you need is two pictures!

  1. First, upload a picture of a space that you want to redesign. This can be a picture of a room you found online, a picture you snapped of your own living room, or even your favorite celebrity's kitchen!

    • If you’re redesigning your own space, grab your phone and take a picture! To get the best results, make sure to snap some well-lit photos. And don't forget to tidy up a bit - clutter or people can distract from your space and cause Vinci to get a little…creative.

  2. Start a design session with Vinci, our AI-powered design assistant, and upload your photo. When Vinci prompts you, just hit the button that says “I want to upload a photo of a room I like and use its style”.

    • If this option doesn’t show up for you when you’re ready to get started with Style Transfer, don’t worry! You can just type that same prompt from above into Vinci’s chat box.

  3. This is where the real fun begins. Choose “Inspiration photo” to upload that dreamy pic you've been crushing on. High-quality photos work best here to give Vinci the clearest vision of your ideal space.

  4. And that’s all there is to it! Watch as Vinci blends the best parts of your inspiration photo into the structure of your space. Once he shows you his initial designs, feel free to make changes and experiment to get it exactly to your liking. We put together a blog to get you started with prompting to help out with this!

Style transformations we’re obsessing over

Let’s check out a couple more designs we love to give you a better feel for how Style Transfer works!

This kitchen redesign couldn't be more different! The original kitchen showcased a modern, clean design with lots of natural light. However, it was a lot of white on white, and we wanted to try out something a bit more colorful.

The rich color palette with gold accents in the inspo photo pulled us in, but it was tough to imagine that bold design in the original kitchen. Vinci pulled these two images together beautifully! We especially love how he kept the tile backsplash from the original kitchen, but in the deep forest green of the inspo photo.

Let's take a look at one more - this time, a bathroom redesign!

The before:

The inspiration:

The after:

This inspo photo has a lot going for it - green artisan tiles on the bathroom walls, a stunning mix of black and gold metal features, and a warm wood tone on the cabinets that pairs nicely with the white countertop. We were interested to see how Vinci would combine these elements with our original bathroom image, which featured large square tiles and wood elements on the walls.

After Style Transfer, we were able to see those design elements that inspired us blended into the structure of the original bathroom. We love Vinci's take on the bathtub, which didn't exist in the inspo photo - the color pairs perfectly with the green tiles. There are a couple of things we'll fine-tune with Vinci - it looks like he got a little confused with the window - but this is a great starting point to play with.

Try Style Transfer yourself!

So there you have it! If you're just getting started designing with Vinci, trying out Style Transfer is a great place to start. You don't need to describe - or even know - exactly what you're looking for when you have a photo to do the heavy lifting! Experiment with a range of different inspo photos on your spaces and see what you get.

Ready to start your creative journey? Grab your favorite inspiration photos, fire up Palazzo, and start prompting Vinci with your design ideas! If you have any questions along the way, don't hesitate to reach out to the Palazzo team by emailing us at vinci@palazzo.ai. We have plenty more Style Transfers to share!
